Buterin Rejects 50% Bitcoin Crash Prediction Amid AI Risks

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has pushed back against predictions that advances in artificial intelligence could undermine confidence in Bitcoin's security and trigger a price decline of more than 50% within two years.

The forecast was made by Liron Shapira, an investor and AI-risk commentator, who assigned a 50% probability to such a collapse as AI capabilities improve.

Buterin disputes this scenario, pointing instead to vulnerabilities in wallets, mining pools, node software, and network infrastructure as more plausible near-term threats than a fundamental failure of Bitcoin's cryptography.

Ai raises security risks without breaking Bitcoin, according to Buterin. The cryptocurrency relies on SHA-256 for proof-of-work calculations, and current generative AI systems have shown no ability to defeat the cryptographic function directly.
