Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has rejected a prediction made by commentator Liron Shapira that AI will cause Bitcoin to crash. Shapira, who hosts the 'Doom Debates' podcast on AI risks, estimated that the odds of Bitcoin losing more than half its value within two years are roughly one in ten.

In his scenario, Shapira focuses on security, suggesting that AI could undermine the network's safeguards. However, he did not specify which aspect of security would be affected.

Buterin responded by saying he is confident in Bitcoin's ability to cope with threats that do not require the consent of the entire community to mitigate. He cited updates to clients and mining pools as examples of how the network can fend off attacks at the level.

Regarding Ethereum, Buterin acknowledged a similar concern regarding quantum computing, which has been a topic of debate since 2026. Researchers have begun estimating the costs of transitioning to post-quantum cryptography, but Buterin stated that he is already holding his position on this issue through his investments.
