Buterin Slams Russia's 'Criminal Aggression' in Support of Ukraine
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has taken a firm stance in support of Ukraine as the war reaches its fourth anniversary.
In a lengthy post on X, Buterin declared his unequivocal support for Kyiv and condemned Russia's actions as 'criminal aggression.'
Buterin, who was born in Russia and raised in Canada, rejected two common justifications for the invasion: that Russia has a right to prevent NATO expansion near its borders, and that Russian-speaking populations in Crimea and Donbas had a democratic right to join Russia.
He pointed to specific events as evidence that the war's aims went far beyond protecting Donbas, including the attack on the Mariupol theater and the killings in Bucha.
Buterin also criticized what he sees as a stalemate in Russia's opposition movement, comparing it to the cryptocurrency industry's struggles with meme coins and stagnant legislation.
