Buterin Unveils Wallet-Focused Plan to Boost Ethereum User Privacy
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has outlined a roadmap to enhance user privacy on the network without waiting for major protocol upgrades. The proposal aims to shift default wallet settings toward private transactions and address rotation per app.
The four pillars of this approach include private onchain payments, partial anonymization within apps, private chain reads, and network-level anonymization. Buterin advocates for integrating existing tools like Railgun and Privacy Pools into wallets, as well as embracing new standards like FOCIL (Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists) and EIP-7701.
The goal is to counter Ethereum's current transparency model, which leaves user activity fully exposed. Buterin emphasizes that privacy upgrades don't need to wait for the next major protocol update, Pectra, scheduled for May 7. He believes wallets and developers should start integrating these habits now.
