Bybit Blocks Coordinated Fake Deposit Attacks Preventing Over $1 Billion in Potential Losses
Bybit, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has detected and blocked coordinated fake deposit attacks on multiple blockchain networks. The incidents were prevented in real-time, with potential losses exceeding $1 billion DOT.
The attacks employed increasingly sophisticated techniques designed to exploit vulnerabilities in deposit scanning systems. Bybit's Group Risk Control team identified the attempts and neutralized them before any funds were incorrectly credited or users affected.
The exchange uses a multi-layered validation framework to detect both known and emerging attack patterns. The system breaks down each transaction into its atomic components, verifying that only genuine deposits are credited. This includes validating transactions at every level of execution, whether they use batch calls, relayed transactions, or ownership manipulation.
The detected attacks represent a new generation of exploits adapted to modern blockchain networks. Bybit continues to strengthen its risk control infrastructure through advanced transaction analysis and balance-based validation, ensuring resilience against increasingly sophisticated attack vectors.
