Bybit Expands European Presence with EMI License in Austria
Bybit has strengthened its European regulatory presence by securing an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license for Bybit Payments GmbH, its Austrian subsidiary. This move allows the company to offer regulated payment services alongside its crypto business in Europe.
The EMI license was granted by Austria's Financial Market Authority and complements Bybit EU's MiCA authorization. According to Georg Harer, legal and compliance head at Bybit EU and co-CEO of Bybit EU GmbH, this development sets a global example for the convergence of digital assets and financial services.
The new EMI license will enable Bybit Payments GmbH to provide e-money and payment services, while Bybit EU GmbH will continue to deliver crypto-asset services under its existing MiCA license. The two entities will operate separately, with each providing services within its own permissions through the Bybit.eu platform.
