Bybit Hires Industry Veteran Sean Ballard for Institutional Trading Push
Bybit, a popular cryptocurrency exchange, has appointed Sean Ballard as its new Head of Derivatives and Institutional Business. According to Bybit, Ballard will focus on developing trading infrastructure, risk frameworks, and institutional capabilities for the company's derivatives and institutional business. With over 25 years of experience in global financial markets, including derivatives, high-frequency trading, and exchange technology, Ballard is well-equipped to lead Bybit's efforts in this area.
Ballard joins Bybit from Jump Trading, where he led the firm's high-frequency futures trading business across the US, EMEA, and LATAM. He also managed investment portfolios and worked with exchanges and regulators on market structure, trading performance, and infrastructure developments. At Bybit, Ballard will focus on institutional trading infrastructure, risk management, and product development.
The appointment comes as Bybit continues to expand its derivatives and institutional trading business. The company has added services such as Bank Triparty arrangements, which allow institutions to manage counterparty risk through regulated custody while retaining access to trading services. It has also introduced a Market Maker Gateway aimed at high-frequency and quantitative trading clients, with latency reduced from 4 milliseconds to 1.5 milliseconds.
