Bybit Secures Austrian EMI License for Regulated Payment Services
Bybit, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has obtained an Austrian Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license. The EMI license was granted to Bybit Payments GmbH by the Financial Market Authority (FMA) of Austria.
This license will enable Bybit Payments GmbH to develop regulated payment capabilities that are complementary to the crypto-asset services provided by Bybit EU GmbH. Bybit EU GmbH has been authorized under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) since May 2025.
The two Austrian entities have their own unique regulatory licenses and obligations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The EMI license will allow Bybit Payments GmbH to establish a foundation for future payment capabilities, including person-to-person payments, e-money services, and merchant payment solutions.
