Bybit Secures EMI Licence for Regulated Payment Services in Europe

Bybit Payments GmbH has been granted an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence by Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA), allowing it to provide regulated e-money and payment services through the Bybit.eu platform. This marks a significant milestone in Bybit's long-term commitment to Europe, where digital assets and financial services are evolving together under clear regulation.

Bybit Payments GmbH will complement the crypto-asset services offered by Bybit EU GmbH, which is authorised under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR). The two Austrian entities have distinct regulatory permissions and responsibilities. Bybit Payments GmbH will focus on electronic money and payment services, while Bybit EU GmbH will continue to provide crypto-asset services.

The EMI licence enables Bybit Payments GmbH to build regulated payment capabilities, which may include person-to-person payments, e-money services, Strong Customer Authentication, open-banking functionality, merchant payment solutions, and future card initiatives. The company aims to develop strategic relationships with financial institutions, payment providers, and enterprise partners.
