Bybit Secures Injunction Against Frozen North Korea-Linked Crypto Assets
Bybit has scored a significant victory in its ongoing battle against North Korean hackers who stole $1.5B in Ethereum from the exchange in February 2025.
A federal judge in Washington D.C. granted Bybit's request for a preliminary injunction, freezing crypto assets linked to the hack and preventing any further movement of funds while the case proceeds.
The civil lawsuit, filed on August 7, 2026, names North Korea, its intelligence arm the Reconnaissance General Bureau, and the Lazarus Group as defendants.
Bybit CEO Ben Zhou has framed the lawsuit as part of a multi-pronged recovery strategy, which also includes coordinating with other platforms, offering financial incentives for the return of stolen funds, and working with law enforcement across jurisdictions.
