Bybit Splits Crypto and Payments Businesses into Separate Austrian Entities

Bybit has established two separate entities in Austria to operate its crypto and payments businesses. Bybit EU GmbH holds an MiCA authorisation for crypto custody, exchange, and client transfers since May 2025.

The new entity, Bybit Payments GmbH, has been granted an electronic money institution licence in Austria. This allows it to provide e-money and payment services under PSD2 regulations.

Georg Harer, managing director at both entities, stated that the EMI licence will help reduce Bybit's reliance on third-party payment providers and build direct relationships with banks and payment institutions over time.
