Bybit Stops $700M in Potential Losses as AI-Driven Defense System Proves Effective
Bybit, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has reported a significant milestone in its security efforts. According to its H1 2026 Risk & Security Report, the exchange successfully prevented over $700 million in potential losses during the first half of this year.
The report highlights Bybit's robust security measures, including AI-assisted audits that detected high-severity vulnerabilities at rates three to five times higher than manual approaches. The exchange also blacklisted more than 10,000 malicious blockchain addresses and flagged about $212 million in funds tied to suspected fraud.
Bybit's rebuilt security model consists of a three-layer defense system: user account controls, continuous on-chain monitoring, and AI-supported security operations. This structure enables the exchange to quickly identify and respond to potential threats, with human specialists retaining final say over critical decisions.
The report comes after Bybit was hit by a massive hack in February 2025, which drained approximately $1.46 billion from its Ethereum cold wallet. The attack was attributed to North Korea's Lazarus Group, and it remains the largest recorded cryptocurrency theft by value.
