Bybit Sues North Korea Over $1.5 Billion Crypto Heist
Bybit has taken significant steps in its ongoing efforts to recover assets stolen during a massive cyberattack in February 2025. The exchange, which is the world's second-largest by trading volume, has filed a civil lawsuit against North Korea and the Lazarus Group.
The lawsuit alleges that the DPRK and the Lazarus Group orchestrated the theft of $1.5 billion worth of digital assets. Bybit has secured a preliminary injunction freezing identified stolen assets held by unidentified individuals and entities named as John Doe defendants in the case.
According to Bybit, the court found that 'Bybit has demonstrated a likelihood of success on the merits' in its lawsuit. This is an important step in recovering funds and supporting international law enforcement investigations into the cyberattack.
The exchange intends to seek additional judicial relief as the proceedings advance. Bybit continues to cooperate closely with relevant agencies, including the FBI, by sharing blockchain intelligence and investigative findings that may support broader enforcement efforts.
