Bybit Sues North Korea Over $1.5 Billion Crypto Heist
Bybit, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has filed a civil lawsuit against North Korea and its Reconnaissance General Bureau (RGB), as well as the Lazarus Group. The suit alleges that these entities orchestrated a $1.5 billion cyberattack in February 2025.
The lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, also secured a preliminary injunction freezing identified stolen assets held by unidentified individuals and entities named as John Doe defendants.
Bybit has worked closely with law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, to trace stolen assets and disrupt laundering networks since the incident.
According to Bybit, approximately $48.4 million in stolen assets has been recovered, while over $30.5 million has been frozen across more than 28 exchanges and custodians pending further legal and investigative action.
