Bybit Sues North Korea Over $1.5 Billion Crypto Theft
Bybit has filed a civil lawsuit against North Korea and the Lazarus Group in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, accusing them of orchestrating the $1.5 billion theft in February 2025.
The court has granted a preliminary injunction freezing identified stolen assets held by unidentified individuals and entities, representing an important step in Bybit's efforts to recover funds and support international law enforcement investigations.
Bybit has secured approximately $48.4 million in recovered stolen assets and frozen over $30.5 million across 28 exchanges and custodians, pending further legal and investigative action.
The company's CEO, Ben Zhou, stated that their focus is on protecting users, recovering what they can, and holding accountable those responsible for the attacks.
