Bybit Sues North Korea Over Record-Breaking $1.5 Billion Crypto Heist
Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has filed a civil lawsuit against North Korea, its intelligence agency, and the Lazarus Group over the theft of $1.5 billion in digital assets.
The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, with Bybit seeking to recover the stolen funds and hold the attackers accountable.
The attack occurred on February 21, 2025, when hackers withdrew over 400,000 Ethereum and stETH from the platform, valued at approximately $1.5 billion.
The FBI had previously linked the hack to North Korea, and Bybit is now seeking a preliminary injunction to block the movement of some discovered funds until the proceedings are completed.
