Bybit Sues North Korea Over Record-Breaking Crypto Hack
Bybit has filed a civil lawsuit against North Korea and its intelligence agency over the $1.5 billion cryptocurrency hack that occurred in February 2025.
The exchange claims that North Korea directed the attack through its Reconnaissance General Bureau, with the Lazarus Group executing the technical execution.
The lawsuit is unusual because it involves a private company suing a sovereign nation in a US court.
However, a federal judge has granted a preliminary injunction freezing certain stolen assets held by unidentified individuals and entities listed as John Doe defendants.
