Bybit Wins U.S. Court Approval for $1.5B North Korea-Linked Hack Recovery
Bybit, a cryptocurrency exchange, has won support from a U.S. court to trace and recover funds linked to a $1.5 billion hack in February 2025. The hack was attributed to North Korean cyber actors called TraderTraitor by the FBI.
The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia granted expedited discovery, allowing Bybit to request identities, balances, and transaction histories from U.S.-linked platforms.
According to Bybit's latest update, about $48.4 million of the stolen assets have been recovered, while over $30.5 million remains frozen across more than 28 exchanges and custodians worldwide.
The court also issued a partial preliminary injunction on July 30, preserving identified assets while the case continues.
