Bybit's Lawsuit Against North Korea Fails to Boost Recovery Rate

Share

Bybit's lawsuit against North Korea has not led to a significant increase in recovered funds from the $1.5 billion cryptocurrency heist that occurred on February 21, 2025.

According to Bybit's own court filings, about $75.5 million (5.3%) of the stolen funds had been frozen or recovered as of June 18, 2026. An August 8 press release put the combined total at roughly $78.9 million, a gain of about $66,700 per day over the previous 51 days.

This rate is nearly identical to the pace Bybit posted before the lawsuit existed, based on its own 2025 disclosures. At this rate, clearing the remaining $1.42 billion would take approximately 58 years.
