California Bill Restricts Public Officials' Meme Coin Involvement
California's AB 2409 bill has cleared both the state Assembly and Senate, moving one step closer to becoming law. The legislation aims to restrict public officials' involvement in meme coins, which are cryptocurrencies created for entertainment purposes.
The bill would prohibit public officers and employees from issuing meme coins and bar listing them for purchase by California residents starting January 1, 2027, unless offered by registered exchanges or other approved entities.
