California Crypto Mogul 'The Godfather' Sentenced to 15 Years for Bitcoin Robbery
A California cryptocurrency mogul known as 'The Godfather' has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in a violent Bitcoin robbery and kidnapping scheme. Adam Iza, 26, was convicted of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, also known as Hobbs Act robbery.
The incident occurred on August 25, 2024, in Danbury, Connecticut, where six Florida men carjacked a Lamborghini Urus and kidnapped its occupants. The victims were the parents of a person who had participated in the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin.
Iza communicated with the kidnappers through encrypted messaging apps and directed them on the logistics of the scheme. He also provided funding for the operation, which was part of a larger plot to steal cryptocurrency.
