Canaan Inc., a NASDAQ-listed company, recently made significant moves in its treasury and operations. The company sold approximately $13.9 million worth of cryptocurrency, comprised of 3,952 Ethereum (ETH) and 54 Bitcoin (BTC), to boost liquidity and signal support for buybacks.

The proceeds from the sale were used to repurchase around 13.6 million ADSs (American Depositary Shares) at a cost of $5.4 million. This move reduces the company's share count, which can positively impact earnings per share (EPS). Management believes that Canaan's current valuation is undervalued, and this action demonstrates their commitment to increasing shareholder value.

In related news, the company's mining operations reported a hashrate of 10.05 EH/s (exa-hashes per second) in non-JV (joint venture) capacity and 4.92 EH/s in JV capacity for August. This indicates the company's current self-operated capacity and cost leverage.

Canaan's treasury now holds approximately 1,868 BTC, adding volatility and optionality tied to Bitcoin's price to the balance sheet.
