Canada Leaves US Behind as Job Market Surges Ahead
Canada's job market has outperformed that of the US for the third consecutive month. Statistics Canada reported on Friday that the country added a whopping 75,000 jobs in July, beating expectations by five times.
This gain is significant, particularly considering that economists had forecasted only 15,000 new positions. The majority of these jobs were created in Ontario, with finance, insurance, and real estate adding 18,000 jobs, followed closely by professional, scientific, and technical services which added 17,000 more.
The stable sectors are crucial for the crypto industry, as they often house digital asset firms. With this growth in employment, Canada's job market is on a steady upward trend, with unemployment falling to 6.4%, its lowest level in two years.
Meanwhile, the US economy contracted by 23,000 jobs in July, missing forecasts by more than 100,000 positions after steep revisions. This divergence has pulled central banks apart, with Royce Mendes of Desjardins stating that a Bank of Canada rate hike remains unlikely before 2027.
