Canadian Banks Tiptoe into XRP through Regulated Funds
Canadian banks continue to dip their toes into cryptocurrency markets through regulated exchange-traded funds (ETFs). In its latest 13F filing, Bank of Montreal disclosed XRP exposure through two U.S.-listed ETF products.
The bank held 323 shares of the Rex Osprey XRP ETF and 20 shares of the ProShares Ultra XRP ETF, valued at over $303 billion as of June 30, 2026. This marks a small but significant step for BMO in accessing cryptocurrency markets without directly holding XRP.
Meanwhile, National Bank of Canada also reported XRP exposure through 3,848 shares of the Bitwise XRP ETF, valued at around $330,000.
The trend suggests that larger early investors are slowly ceding ground to midsize asset managers and family offices in terms of XRP fund ownership.
