Canadian Crypto Ownership Reaches 25%, Survey Finds
A recent survey conducted by the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) has found that the number of Canadians owning cryptocurrencies has increased significantly. The study, which polled 2,360 Canadians aged 18 and over between December 2025 and January 2026, revealed that 25% of respondents currently hold cryptocurrencies, up from 10% in 2023.
The survey also showed that awareness of crypto assets is increasing, with 59% of respondents indicating they are familiar with them. However, despite growing awareness and ownership, there remains widespread confusion about regulation, insurance protections, and transaction capabilities.
According to the OSC's executive vice president of strategic regulation, Naizam Kanji, the regulator expects emerging trends and behaviors to help anticipate opportunities and risks, while supporting investor protection and fostering fair and efficient markets.
