Canary Capital Files S-1 for Spot TRX ETF Amid Broad Crypto ETF Filings
Canary Capital has taken another step towards expanding its crypto fund pipeline by filing an S-1 registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch a spot TRX exchange-traded fund (ETF). The proposed fund, which would trade under the ticker TRXS, aims to track the price of Tron's native cryptocurrency, TRX.
The filing is the latest development in the asset manager's aggressive push into crypto ETFs, following its earlier applications for spot Litecoin and XRP funds. If approved, the TRX ETF would be the first of its kind in the US, offering investors regulated exposure to TRX through a traditional brokerage account.
Canary Capital's move comes amid a broader wave of crypto ETF filings following the SEC's approval of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in January 2024 and July 2024, respectively. The asset manager has not yet filed the necessary 19b-4 application for listing on an exchange, but the S-1 submission signals its commitment to bringing the product to market.
The approval of a spot TRX ETF would have significant implications for investors and Tron's ecosystem. It would provide a regulated, liquid, and transparent way for investors to gain exposure to TRX, which is currently only available through crypto exchanges or trusts. The fund could also increase institutional adoption of the Tron blockchain network.
