Canton Network Gains $4B Stablecoin Boost with World Liberty Financial's USD1 Launch
The Canton Network has gained a crucial asset after World Liberty Financial's USD1 stablecoin was launched natively on the platform. This milestone marks a significant step towards making institutional-scale tokenized finance functional.
USD1, which is backed by BitGo Bank & Trust, N.A., and has approximately $4.05 billion in market capitalization, positions itself as the sixth-largest stablecoin. Its launch is seen as a necessary layer of optionality for institutions like Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and BNY Mellon.
The technical advantage here is atomic settlement, enabled by the CIP-56 token standard and the Global Synchronizer. This allows tokenized real-world assets to settle alongside their cash legs without traditional clearing delays.
However, USD1 faces challenges in terms of concentration risk, with Binance wallets holding approximately 84% of the circulating supply. Additionally, the Trump-backed venture carries significant reputational baggage due to its UAE-linked investments and complex history involving the Binance CZ pardon and the Justin Sun litigation.
