Carbonara Defends Bitcoin Mining Amid Local Project Rejection

Michael Carbonara, a Republican candidate for Florida's 22nd Congressional District, is defending data centers and bitcoin mining operations despite rejecting a local project. At a recent candidate forum, he stated that he opposes Project Tango in Palm Beach due to concerns about noise pollution, environmental impacts, and safety.

However, Carbonara broadly defended data centers, noting his own experience with a bitcoin mining operation in Michigan's eastern Upper Peninsula. The mine has faced significant pushback from locals, who have complained about the lack of contact with Carbonara regarding the project.

Carbonara argued that bitcoin mining can actually bring down energy costs and pointed out that the Michigan operation does not use water, relying instead on power provided by a nonprofit electric utility co-op. He also claimed to be attacked by critics including George Soros and the No Kings people for promoting innovation.
