Cardano Celebrates Six Years Since Shelley Transformed Network Staking

The Cardano network is celebrating its sixth anniversary of the Shelley upgrade, which transformed staking on the platform. Launched in July 2020, Shelley introduced a non-custodial staking model without token lock-ups, allowing ADA holders to delegate their assets while retaining full ownership.

This approach has become a cornerstone of ADA's decentralization strategy and remains one of the blockchain's defining features. Unlike other proof-of-stake blockchains that require custodial staking or lock-up periods, Cardano allows users to stake ADA without surrendering custody of their assets.

The Shelley upgrade also introduced incentives for independent Stake Pool Operators (SPOs), helping distribute block production across a large number of community-managed validators. This has strengthened network decentralization and turned the platform into one of the most decentralized blockchain ecosystems in the industry.
