Cardano Foundation First Crypto Org to Get Blockchain-Attested Audit
The Cardano Foundation has become the first crypto organization to have its financial statements audited and attested on-chain by Grant Thornton Switzerland. The audit opinion, dated March 25, 2026, is a significant step towards transparency in the blockchain space.
Grant Thornton used the Reeve platform, which bridges conventional accounting workflows with public blockchain infrastructure, to attest the Cardano Foundation's 2025 financial statements. This move demonstrates 'the highest standards of transparency' as described by Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation.
The audit reveals that as of December 31, 2025, the foundation held total assets of CHF 287.5 million ($361 million), with a significant allocation in ADA (51.6%) and Bitcoin (25.5%). The decision to hold the majority in native crypto assets rather than retreating to cash reflects a deliberate strategic posture.
This development is crucial for non-profit foundations like the Cardano Foundation, which are accountable to their communities rather than shareholders. On-chain audit attestation gives community members the ability to verify whether a foundation is managing resources responsibly.
