The Cardano Foundation has collaborated with CEMS and SGH Warsaw School of Economics on a three-month research project to examine how public blockchain networks can support global sustainability compliance.

The study focused on regulatory pressure, technical capabilities, and practical business applications, offering leaders a clearer view of how blockchain can streamline reporting obligations in an increasingly regulated environment.

The team began by mapping out the global regulatory landscape, identifying regions where compliance demands are accelerating. India and Europe stood out for their extensive frameworks, with Europe already enforcing mandatory disclosure rules for more than 50,000 enterprises.

A weighted matrix scorecard was developed to evaluate public permissionless blockchains across 14 metrics grouped into business, sustainability, architecture, and strategy categories. Cardano ranked second behind Ethereum, with recommendations centered on improving fee-based monetization, energy efficiency, and scalability.
