Cardano has reached a significant milestone in digital payments with the addition of native support to the official x402 protocol codebase. This integration, completed by engineers from the Cardano Foundation, allows developers working on x402-based applications to utilize Cardano directly within their projects.

The update streamlines the process for integrating Cardano into x402-based apps, eliminating the need for custom implementations and third-party projects. This support spans client, server, and facilitator components, complete with examples, and accommodates Cardano's mainnet, preprod, and preview environments.

x402 is an open payments protocol originally created by Coinbase, which enables direct web-based payments between applications and agents using HTTP standards. The integration of Cardano into the x402 codebase makes multi-network payment processing more accessible for developers, who can now plug into Cardano using standardized tools and reusable components.
