Cardano Governance Bottleneck Looms as Voting Deadline Approaches

The Cardano network is facing a critical governance bottleneck due to low participation in the Update Constitutional Committee (UCC) 2026 action. With less than 48 hours left before the voting deadline on September 1, Intersect notes that DReps are currently at 66.3% of the required threshold of 67%, while SPOs have only achieved 39% out of the necessary 51%. If this action does not pass, existing committee members' terms will expire, and the committee will fall below the minimum size of five.

This could hinder progress towards the Dijkstra hard fork and Leios upgrade, which require both constitutional and technical updates. The Dijkstra era is set to deliver Cardano's next major protocol upgrade in two phases, with Phase 1 introducing the Dijkstra ledger era and shipping Ouroboros Linear Leios as a complete feature by Q4 2026.

Meanwhile, Cardano has gone live as the public proof layer in Blockforce's traceability platform, anchoring over 500,000 supply chain records. The system separates confidentiality from verifiability, allowing auditors and regulators to confirm record authenticity without accessing underlying data.
