Cardano Governance on Brink of Bottleneck as Vote Participation Remains Low
Cardano's governance process is facing a potential bottleneck due to low participation in an upcoming vote. IOG Product Manager Carlos Lopez De Lara has reminded DReps and SPOs that they need to vote for four newly elected Constitutional Committee members before the September 1 deadline.
The vote is crucial because it will determine whether Cardano can approve key protocol changes, particularly the Constitution Update linked to the Leios scalability upgrade. Without a fully seated Constitutional Committee, governance actions could be delayed or even blocked.
Currently, DRep support stands at 43.04%, short of the required 67% threshold, while SPO support is only 15.32%, below the needed 51%. Lopez De Lara warned that failing to seat enough committee members could create a governance bottleneck and affect Cardano's ability to advance certain proposals.
The urgency surrounding the vote is tied to the upcoming Leios upgrade, which will increase the network's transaction-processing capacity by enabling greater parallelism in block processing. However, before the necessary governance changes can move forward, Cardano needs a properly seated Constitutional Committee to approve the Constitution Update associated with Leios.
