Cardano Integrates Bitcoin-Style Payment Channels with Cardano Lightning
Cardano is set to introduce a new state channel architecture dubbed Cardano Lightning, which aims to bring fast and low-cost payments to the network.
The system, currently in pre-production deployment, was presented by PolyCrypto software engineer Ilja von Hoessle during an August 24 livestream. According to von Hoessle, Cardano Lightning is based on a fork of the Lightning Development Kit (LDK) Node, which provides a mature codebase and flexibility.
Cardano Lightning consists of bidirectional payment channels that allow two parties to send and receive payments directly without putting each other's funds at risk. The system also enables payment routing through multiple participants without requiring a direct channel between the sender and recipient.
