Cardano Integrates with Swiss Retail Infrastructure
The Cardano Foundation has announced that users can now pay for groceries at Swiss Spar stores using the ADA token. The integration brings Cardano into a retail payments infrastructure already active in stores, with 137 locations accepting the cryptocurrency across Switzerland and neighboring Liechtenstein.
DFX.swiss, a Swiss fintech firm, developed the Open Crypto Pay standard used to process transactions. This allows customers to pay by scanning a QR code at checkout using a compatible Cardano wallet, and merchants receive payment in Swiss francs regardless of which cryptocurrency was used.
According to Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Switzerland-based Cardano Foundation, 'the integration marks the beginning of a fundamental shift in how value moves through society.' He described the partnership as planting seeds for a financial ecosystem in which paying with Cardano is as natural as paying with a card.
