Cardano Price Surge Sparks Skepticism Amid Declining DeFi Activity
Cardano's ADA token has experienced a significant price surge of 20% over the past seven days, but this rally is being met with skepticism from analyst Austin Campbell. According to data from DeFiLlama and TokenTerminal, Cardano's total value locked (TVL) has fallen by 237 million tokens since January 1, while its network revenue has declined from $20,000 in January to $8,000 in August. The DEX volume for Cardano also plummeted 98% from August 22, raising questions about the durability of this rally.
Austin Campbell, founder of Zero Knowledge, believes that ADA's price increase is largely due to its correlation with Bitcoin and a lack of fundamental value. He notes that many altcoins without tokenization adoption are experiencing similar price increases, while exceptions like Hyperliquid (HYPE) stand out as an exception in his view.
Despite the cautionary views from Campbell, Cardano's chart remains constructive for now. The ADA token is holding within a rising channel, with its upper trendline pointing towards the 200-day exponential moving average near $0.24. Support levels sit at $0.19, where the channel midline meets the 100-day EMA.
