Cardano Price Surges 20%, But Fundamentals Raise Concerns

Cardano (ADA) has seen its price surge 20% over the past seven days, but the rally's sustainability is being questioned due to weak fundamentals.

The total value locked in Cardano's decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem has fallen from 509 million ADA on January 1st to 272 million ADA, a decline of 237 million tokens. This downturn comes despite the price increase and a recent upgrade aimed at improving network speed and security.

Derivatives demand also appears to be weakening, with open interest falling from $582.14 million on August 22nd to $485.32 million after $18 million in liquidations through August 27th. The long-to-short ratio remains at 0.89, indicating that shorts are dominating the market.

Austin Campbell, founder of Zero Knowledge, expressed skepticism about the rally, stating that 'something that has no utility and no fundamental way to value it is maybe an easy fade, because it just caught a bid in the nonsense and went up more because there was zero liquidity on it.'
