Cardano's Decentralization Metric Hits Record High Amid Price Rebound

Cardano's decentralization metric has hit an all-time high, reaching a record 16 on its Nakamoto coefficient. This indicator measures the minimum number of independent entities required to disrupt a blockchain network, and a higher figure suggests stronger censorship resistance for users.

The record-breaking figure was reported by U.Today on August 5, local time, with data compiled by Chainspect, a Web3 blockchain fundamentals tracking service. Rick McCracken, a Cardano stake pool operator, shared the information on X, formerly Twitter, stating that Cardano had set a new decentralization record.

The increase in decentralization is attributed to the distribution of authority across many actors rather than a few. In proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchains like Cardano, the Nakamoto coefficient is calculated based on stake pools, validators, and block producers. A higher figure means that the network is less concentrated and more resistant to censorship.

The market has responded positively to this development, with ADA prices rebounding by 18.17% over the past week, reaching $0.1916 as of August 4. However, holder flows were mixed, with a decrease in the number of Cardano wallets holding balances by 7,070 from two months earlier.
