Cardano's Governance Vote Hits Critical Week as Gaps Remain Large

Cardano's vote to seat four elected Constitutional Committee members is in its final week. The proposal, which aims to bring in new committee-backed governance, faces significant hurdles with both voter groups far from the required marks.

A live CardanoScan reading on Aug. 25 showed support from delegated representatives at 41.7%, well below the 67% threshold needed for approval. Stake pool operator support stood at 12.0%, compared to the 51% required.

The figures have risen across dated snapshots available, but the remaining gaps are substantial: 25.3 percentage points for DReps and 39.0 points for SPOs. Votes and stake distributions can still change before expiry on Sept. 1, epoch 653.

A failed committee vote would leave the governance system with a bottleneck, as an undersized committee cannot ratify certain actions. This could slow down the road to the planned Dijkstra hard fork.
