Cardano's Leios Scales to 1,000 TPS in Testing
Cardano's developers have made significant progress in improving the network's scalability by achieving throughput of approximately 1,000 simple transactions per second in a controlled test environment. This milestone was reached through the use of Ouroboros Leios, which is designed to increase throughput without compromising security properties.
The demonstration used a 'Dozen Devnet,' a small controlled network with three block producers and three relays, operating with emulated 20-millisecond round-trip times and bandwidth of 50 Mb/s per node. This setup allowed developers to test Leios's pipeline architecture, which introduces concurrent work processes for block production, endorsements, voting, aggregation, and certification.
The results indicate that raw throughput may no longer be the biggest technical obstacle for Cardano. However, developers still need to optimize how data moves between nodes to achieve high performance in real-world conditions. This challenge is crucial as it will determine whether Leios can sustainably process 1,000 TPS on the mainnet.
