Cardano's Leios Scaling Breakthrough Hinges on User Adoption
Cardano's Leios protocol has achieved a significant breakthrough in scaling capacity, demonstrating sixfold throughput gains during its first public testnet phase. The protocol peaked at 26.8 transaction kilobytes per second (TxkB/s), compared to the existing Ouroboros Praos system's ceiling of 4.51 TxkB/s.
However, the real challenge for Cardano lies in generating enough revenue to support its staking rewards and maintain economic viability. The protocol is designed to remove the throughput ceiling that could prevent Cardano from generating sufficient transaction fees to replace diminishing reserve contributions.
The testnet operated for 41 days, producing over 127,000 blocks and announcing about 30,000 Endorser Blocks. Input Output said none of the incidents exposed a flaw in the underlying Leios protocol.
