Cardano's Steep Decline: Is It Too Cheap to Ignore?
Cardano's (ADA) price has plummeted by 94% over five years, dropping from an all-time high of $3 in September 2021 to its current value of just $0.19. Despite this significant decline, some investors might wonder if it's time to buy Cardano while its price is low.
The problem with Cardano lies in its failure to deliver on its promise of becoming a major player in the blockchain world, particularly in decentralized finance (DeFi). In fact, Cardano ranks only 36th in total value locked (TVL), a key metric used to determine DeFi strength. It has also failed to make a significant impact in stablecoins and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.
Competitors like Solana (SOL) are outperforming Cardano, with Ethereum down 17% for the year and Solana down 18%. In contrast, Cardano is down a whopping 41%. The lack of spot Cardano ETFs also limits its appeal to both retail and institutional investors.
Cardano's founder, Charles Hoskinson, has warned about 'a wave of failures' coming to the Cardano blockchain ecosystem. While it may not go to zero, Cardano is getting dangerously close. Its low price might be enticing, but it's cheap for a reason.
