Cartel-Linked Crypto Mining Operation Uncovered in Puebla's Sierra Norte
Mexican authorities discovered a hidden crypto mining site in Puebla's Sierra Norte region with approximately 300 machines, satellite internet, and a power setup that is now under investigation for possible electricity theft and money laundering.
The site was packed with specialized computing units, a pedestal transformer, medium-voltage terminals, and eight satellite internet antennas, indicating a significant installation.
Investigations involved Mexico's Fiscalía General de la República, the Navy, and Puebla's state security ministry. While no arrests were made public during the search, authorities are focusing on the hardware, power connection, and ongoing investigation.
The operation's focus is not just on the mining equipment but also on whether the digital assets generated by it may have been used to disguise illicit funds linked to a cartel.
