CAS Unveils AI-Driven Nuclear Energy Plan at WAIC
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has unveiled an ambitious plan to integrate artificial intelligence into every stage of the nuclear energy lifecycle. At the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, researchers from CAS revealed a technical roadmap for weaving AI into subcritical nuclear systems.
The plan centers on ADANES (Accelerator-Driven Advanced Nuclear Energy System), which combines raw data processing, physics-based modeling, and expert knowledge across five architectural layers. The 'triple-driving' model aims to more efficiently manage fuel cycles and reduce long-lived radioactive waste.
A major national science and technology infrastructure project called CiADS is currently under construction to serve as the verification platform for these technologies. CAS also announced the formation of the AI for ADANES Alliance, a coalition that brings together research institutes, nuclear enterprises, AI companies, and financial institutions.
