Cathie Wood's Ark Fund and Bitcoin Party Like It's 2021 Again
Cathie Wood's Ark Innovation Fund and Bitcoin are experiencing a rare convergence of gains. In August, both the fund (ARKK) and Bitcoin (BTC-USD) have increased by more than 20%, a feat that has only occurred four other times since Cathie Wood launched her flagship ETF in 2014.
This phenomenon is reminiscent of late 2020 and early 2021 when zero interest rates, stimulus checks, SPACs, meme stocks, crypto millionaires, and innovative companies dominated the financial landscape. ARKK became one of the defining trades of that era, and Bitcoin was right by its side.
According to Yahoo Finance analysis of AlphaSpace data, August 2026 is only the fifth time since 2014 that both ARKK and Bitcoin have gained at least 20% in a single month. The previous instances were April 2020, November 2020, January 2023, and November 2024.
In those four episodes, Bitcoin's median return was around 5% over the next month, 29% over three months, 43% over six months, and a remarkable 137% over a year. While these results are encouraging for Bitcoin enthusiasts, it is essential to note that four observations do not constitute a reliable forecasting system.
