CBDC Compliance in Full Swing as Central Banks Move to Production

Share

Central banks are moving from CBDC pilots to production planning, making compliance work no longer theoretical. The Bank for International Settlements reported that about 94% of surveyed central banks were working on CBDCs by 2024.

CBDCC compliance covers a wide range of topics, including KYC, AML/CFT, privacy, data governance, offline payments, and cross-border settlement. It's not just crypto compliance with a central bank logo attached - it's digital sovereign money, subject to existing financial crime controls and payment regulation.

Retail CBDCs serve individuals and businesses for everyday payments, while wholesale CBDCs are designed for banks, payment institutions, and market infrastructure. The compliance risk differs in each case.
