CENTCOM and UAE Plan Joint AI Military Task Force

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are planning to launch a joint AI-focused military task force called Task Force Talon Synapse. This initiative, which is still unverified as of July 28, 2026, would be the latest in a series of defense technology collaborations between the two nations.

CENTCOM has been experimenting with various innovation-focused units, including Task Force 59, launched in September 2021, which integrated artificial intelligence with unmanned maritime systems. The US-UAE defense relationship has also deepened since at least 2023, with joint exercises, shared intelligence frameworks, and collaborative development programs becoming routine.

The UAE's national AI strategy emphasizes machine learning and autonomous capabilities, as well as a domestic defense industry. CENTCOM's Task Force Talon Synapse would build on the success of previous initiatives, including Task Force 59, which established a working template for bilateral tech cooperation.
