CFTC Challenges CME's Lawsuit Over Approval of Kalshi's Bitcoin Futures Contract
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has filed a motion to dismiss CME Group's lawsuit against the approval of Kalshi's Bitcoin perpetual futures contract.
CME argues that these contracts should be regulated as swaps, not futures, claiming the approval gives newer exchanges an unfair advantage.
The CFTC counters that CME lacks legal standing since it can list similar contracts itself and that futures contracts do not require fixed expiration dates.
