CFTC Prepares Own Crypto Rules Amid Congressional Delay
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is preparing to introduce its own regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, even if Congress fails to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act).
CFTC Commissioner Brian Quintenz stated that if the bipartisan bill does not reach the president's desk, he will instruct staff to propose new rules. This move is part of a broader effort to reshape oversight of the crypto market.
The CFTC has already begun reviewing crypto trading oversight and is examining ways to allow registered and unregistered firms to offer leveraged or margined crypto trading. The agency is also working on safeguards for blockchain developers.
